Rabbit Season

I'll let the pix do most of the talking. But first, an intro: Haven't been working too much with 2-D visual art lately, there's just so much shit to take care of around here. Late fall brought an excellent harvest of eggplant and chili and bell peppers, but with colder weather approaching, the garden needed a crop change. We pulled all the summer veggies out and popped in some cheddar cauliflowerromanesco (the most badass veggie ever), brussels sprouts, golden and chioggia beets, and a few lettuce/baby greens patches. Really hoping everything turns out, I've read that Brassicas (cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, etc family) can be kind of difficult to cultivate.

Also new to the backyard mini-homestead... Rabbits! Picked up two does and a buck about 2 months ago from a lady on craigslist. Both does are with litters right now, and we do plan on eating them. They're really fucking cute and it's going to suck to kill 'em, but that's the way she goes. Fuckin' way she goes...

Mama Charlene (we only named the breeders for record keeping's sake) with her few days old kits.

Probably a week old here.

Three and a half weeks old and hopping around. Getting meatier... The brown guy in front looks exactly like its pep pep.

Charlene and mini-Charlene.

Our other doe, Blackie (Twin Peaks style). She gave birth on Oct. 7.

Also, we planted a cactus garden. The Old Man of the Andes on the far right didn't make it, and the prickly pear got stomped by a very drunk friend and is attempting recovery.

And I leave you with this gal we skinned a few weeks back. Our boss found her fairly freshly dead on the side of the road near his house and kindly bagged her and gave her to us. We'll hopefully be getting some coyote soon too. The pelt is in the freezer right now, but brain tanning will be happenin soon.

More dead critters coming up in December. First rabbit slaughtering day will be on Winter Solstice (the 21).

Oh yeah

This place. Have some months old things. Not much new art lately, but I have some relief printmaking ideas floating around in my head. It's just a matter of gathering all the materials, of which I have none...

Summertime is growin' time

I haven't felt too strong of a connection to the Internet lately, but I suppose I'm ripe for an update. Still no scanner, I should probably start looking into getting one...

I have a little art show for Fresno's monthly ArtHop. Pretty excited about that. I'll have some old works and some newer ones too. Rainbow Sorcerer will be playing at my show as well. Just a little one night event, but it'll be some good times I'm thinkin'.

Finally finished this thing.

Other life stuff that keeps me away from the computer:

Planted a garden in the backyard in April. This photo was taken on April 24. I've never planted a garden before, so this is very much a learning process. We're growing eggplant, oregano, bell peppers, chili peppers, cherry and heirloom tomatoes, chard, and potatoes in this 5x5 foot plot. We later ripped the potato plant out and put in basil and carrots.

May 2.

May 28 and June 27. As you can see, the garden exploded with growth. We're getting a solid amount of cherry tomatoes, some huge but still unripe Cherokee Purple heirloom tomatoes, tons of chili peppers. Ate our first eggplant yesterday (just tossed it on the grill with some olive oil, salt, and pepper), so delicious.

Plants are your friends.

Also, found this little thing in our backyard, abandoned by her feral mom. Whaddya gonna do? Kill a kitten?

Keep on growin'

Rainy Days

I work at the bird show now. Birds are weird, loud, and often grumpy animals.

Baby snakes! This is the first (that I can remember) wild rattlesnake I've encountered. Spotted at Pinnacles National Monument.

A tiny bit of art. My scanner is really old and Canon doesn't make a driver for it for Windows 7, so I'm still stuck taking pictures. Lame. Trying to finish that unicorn painting in the next few days. Gotta crank up the artmaking.

Ars Goetia

I've been working on this piece for the 72 Demons project headed by Tara, and this is the result. My demon is Prince Stolas, and he's showing all y'alls about some plants and whatnot. Done with watercolor, gouache, india ink, and some other random stuff.

Just Chibbin' It

Fresno Livin'

Currently lacking a scanner, but some art is happening.
